There will be a lot of food wastage in our preschool, which goes against our national education on sustainability. Can we serve based on our children's daily intake instead of keeping to the standard serving size?

The HMPP guidelines are based on scientific research that assess the nutritional requirements needed to support a child's growth. Hence, preschools should continue to serve and encourage the children to eat their food. We understand some children may not be able to finished finish the portion, but the centres have to ensure meals with sufficient servings are provided.Preschools should also inculcate healthy eating habits in children through lesson plans that teach children about the importance of nutrition and how to make healthier food choices. Excursions to farms or supermarkets can also be a fun way to teach children about the food sources and the variety of healthy foods available.Additionally, preschools can consider working with other organisations to upcycle their food waste, which can involve donating surplus food to food banks or finding ways to compost or recycle the food waste. By taking these steps, the preschool can help reduce food waste and teach children about the importance of sustainability and the value of not wasting resources.
