Updated by ICA
The race of a child can follow that of either parent, or an acceptable mixed race if the child's parents are of different races. A child who is a Singapore citizen is also eligible to have a double-barrelled race comprising both parents’ races. All siblings of the child who are below 21 years old from the same set of parents should have the same race.

Possible examples of child’s race

Example (1): Father: Chinese; Mother: German

1) Chinese (follow father's race)
2) German (follow mother's race)
3) Eurasian (an acceptable mixed race of European and Asian)
4) Chinese-German (follow father-mother's race)
5) German-Chinese (follow mother-father's race)

Example (2): Father: Indian-Chinese; Mother: Malay-German
Note: For double-barrelled race, the child's first component race must be taken from the first component race of either parent.

1) Indian (follow father's first component race)
2) Malay (follow mother's first component race)
3) Indian-Chinese (follow father's race)
4) Malay-German (follow mother's race)
5) Indian-Malay (combination of father's and mother's first component race)
6) Malay-Indian (combination of mother's and father's first component race)
7) Indian-German (combination of father's first component race and mother's second component race)
8) Malay-Chinese (combination of mother's first component race and father's second component race)
