All parents are required to register their child’s birth via LifeSG. All births in Singapore must be registered within 42 days from the date of birth. Failing to do so is an offence under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act. You could be liable for a fine and/or imprisonment upon conviction.

If the child is not a Singapore citizen, parents will need to obtain a travel document for the child from the respective Embassy or High Commission within 42 days of the child's birth. Details of the regularisation of the immigration status of a foreign child born in Singapore can be found in the advisory note that is issued together with the digital birth certificate. Parents must ensure the child has a valid immigration pass to remain in Singapore beyond the 42^nd day from the child’s birth by applying for the appropriate immigration pass at ICA.
