H1 non-Tamil Indian Language (Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu) or H1 Foreign Language (French, German, Japanese) may be taken in lieu of MTL. Students who have been granted approval to offer a Non-Tamil Indian language or a Foreign Language in lieu of Mother Tongue at GCE O-Level, will continue to offer the same language at GCE A-Level.

Students who offer Thai/Burmese in lieu of Mother Tongue Language at GCE O-Level are required to apply for exemption from MTL as these subjects are Not Offered at GCE A-level.
