If you have problems with a licensed moneylender, you can make a complaint to the Registry of Moneylenders. This includes issues like unfair treatment, contract problems, or if they broke any rules.

Before you start

You will need:

  • Documents related to your loan (loan contract, receipts, etc.)

  • Evidence of the problem (WhatsApp messages, emails, loan contract number)

Step 1: Gather your documents

Collect all documents that support your complaint, such as:

  • Your loan contract

  • WhatsApp messages from the moneylender

  • Email conversations

  • Payment receipts

The more evidence you have, the better the Registry can help you.

Step 2: Contact the Registry

You can make your complaint in two ways:

Lodge a report

Step 3: Provide your information

When you contact the Registry, be ready to:

  • Explain what happened

  • Share your documents and evidence

  • Answer questions about your loan and the problem

What happens next

  • A case officer will review your complaint

  • They may contact you within 14 business days for more information or to schedule an interview

  • The Registry will investigate your complaint thoroughly

  • Problem moneylenders will face action

  • Your details will not be shared with the moneylender without your permission

Other options if needed

If the moneylender treated you unfairly: You can also take your case to the Small Claims Tribunal or Court under the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act.

If the moneylender harassed you:

Make a police report
