When someone passes away, their Central Provident Board (CPFB) moneys go to the people they chose during their lifetime. This is called a "nomination".

What you need to know before you start

You will need:

  • The deceased person's NRIC number

Step 1: Contact the CPFB

The CPFB will tell you if your loved one made a valid nomination.

How to contact them:

What to ask: "Did [person's name, NRIC: XXXXXX] make a valid nomination for their CPF money?"

Step 2: Understand what happens next

If there IS a valid nomination

  • The CPF Board will pay the money directly to the person chosen (the "nominee")

  • Important: The nominee must be 18 years old or above

  • Exception: If the nominee is under 18, the Public Trustee's Office will manage the money until the person turns 18 (moneys held-in-trust for minor).

If there is NO valid nomination

The CPF Board will send the moneys to the Public Trustee within 6 weeks
