Where and when do I arrange for a school placement assessment?
School placement assessments for preschool-aged children are available:
- At the Department of Child Development at the KK Women's and Children's Hospital (KKH).
- At the Child Development Unit at the National University Hospital (NUH).
- At some Early Intervention Programme for Infants & Children (EIPIC) centres. For children who are placed in an EI centre, ECDA requires all centres to complete a holistic review of each child’s profile to understand how to best provide support in the transition to primary school.
- With private practitioners.
These assessments are usually conducted during the year that your child is due to register for Primary 1 of a mainstream school or Primary 1 / Junior 1 of a special education (SPED) school.
For older children who are already enrolled in a mainstream school, but do not find the setting suitable for them, parents may approach the school to discuss potential assessment options.
