Why do we have compulsory education?

Updated by MOE
It is the intention of the Government to give all Singaporean children a head start in life by being taught foundational knowledge and skills in the national primary schools. This foundation will enable them to further their education and training. The implementation of CE for children with moderate-to-severe SEN born after 1 January 2012 helps MOE ensure that all Singaporean children who can access learning opportunities do so in an appropriate school, and that the educational interests of our children are safeguarded.
