What is the difference between the curriculum at MOE Kindergarten (MK) and other preschools?

The MOE Kindergarten curriculum is developed by MOE’s curriculum specialists based on the Nurturing Early Learners (NEL) Framework which guides quality teaching and learning of pre-school children in Singapore.

Guided by our belief that children are joyful, curious, active and competent learners, the MK curriculum helps children learn and understand the world around them through purposeful play and quality interactions. Using activities and resources with a distinctive Singapore flavour, MK children learn about the people, places and things around them in a familiar and relevant context.

The MK curriculum also places emphasis on language learning to promote early childhood bilingualism. The Starlight Literacy Programme provides opportunities for children to enjoy learning and using English and their Mother Tongue Language and be aware of local ethnic cultures in Singapore.

Other pre-school centres in Singapore are privately run and their curriculum is planned by their teachers or by a curriculum team at the operator’s headquarters. While pre-school centres are encouraged to take reference from the guiding principles in the NEL Framework, they may design their curriculum and programme based on other pre-school philosophies and curriculum approaches.
