Can I visit schools to find out more about the provisions in mainstream and special education schools?
The Open House is a useful platform to visit school and familiarise your preschool-aged child with primary school life and to give you an opportunity to observe how comfortable and independent your child is in these settings.
Many mainstream and special education (SPED) schools have open houses.
Mainstream primary school open houses are mainly between May and July every year. MOE publishes the list of Open Houses for Primary Schools annually on https://www.schoolbag.edu.sg/.
You may also visit MOE’s SchoolFinder to start shortlisting your schools and obtain more information from the schools’ websites before you visit the open houses.
You may also make prior arrangements with the school to meet relevant school personnel and introduce your child to the school’s environment and programmes. You may inform the school of your child’s profile as it helps them understand the need for your visit.
SPED schools’ open houses are generally from February of each year onwards and information on the open houses is available at the individual schools’ webpages.
After your child is enrolled in the school, you are strongly encouraged to contact the school directly to discuss the plan to introduce your child to the school’s environment, programmes and relevant school personnel, if necessary.
