Is it necessary for my child with special educational needs to complete a school placement assessment before enrolling in a special education school or a mainstream school?

A school placement assessment is necessary if you intend to apply to Primary 1 / Junior 1 in a Special Education (SPED) school.

A school placement assessment is not compulsory for Primary 1 enrolment to a mainstream school. However, if preschool teachers, early intervention professionals, or qualified professionals working with your child have indicated that they might have higher support needs and would benefit from more intensive and customised support, a school placement assessment is strongly encouraged.
