What is the TRANSIT programme?
The Ministry of Education's TRANsition Support for InTegration (TRANSIT) programme is being introduced in all primary schools by 2026. TRANSIT supports Primary 1 students with social and behavioural difficulties during their transition into primary school.
The programme helps students develop independence by teaching foundational self-management skills tailored to their specific needs. Students are supported by Special Educational Needs Officers (Learning and Behavioural Support) and teachers in small groups and within their form classes throughout their Primary 1 year.
The TRANSIT curriculum focuses on strengthening self-management skills, including developing good classroom work habits, managing emotions effectively, and building social and communication skills. Students learn through a structured approach involving role-play, independent practice, and coaching by trained staff.
