What is Cybercrime?
Cybercrime refers to all activities done with criminal intent in cyberspace. Due to the anonymous nature that the internet provides, perpetrators prefer to engage in variety of criminal activities within the internet.
Singapore's cybercrimes are largely defined into two segments:
• Crimes where computers/computer networks is/are the target - These are the crimes that fall under the Computer Misuse Act 1993. Examples would be Compromise of social media accounts, Hacking of servers, Website Defacement, DoS/DDoS, Ransomware and Malware.
• Traditional crimes which are committed using computers/Internet. Examples would be cheating in e-commerce, Internet Love Scam, Cyber Extortion, Cyber Stalking etc.
