Bilingual education is a cornerstone of our education system. The learning of our Mother Tongue helps to develop children’s interest and confidence in using a MTL on a daily basis. It also helps them develop a sense of cultural identity in Singapore and appreciation for their local ethnic culture.

At MOE Kindergarten (MK), children can only opt for one MTL and we encourage children to learn their official MTL.

Pre-schoolers who learn a MTL that is not their Mother Tongue will require MOE’s approval if they want to continue to do so in primary school. Requests are considered on a case-by-case basis.
