I have registered and secured a place for my child to be admitted to Primary 1 next year, but I find that my child may have difficulty in coping. Can I defer my child to start P1 a year later?

You can request for a deferment from our Compulsory Education Unit (CEU) if your child is Singapore Citizen.

At the end of the P1 Registration Exercise, if your child has secured a school place and you have subsequently obtained approval from CEU for your child's deferment, you should do the following:

  1. Inform the school that you have obtained approval for the deferment of your child.
  2. Check with the school on the procedures for the eventual admission of your child to that school.

You will not be allowed to participate in the subsequent year’s P1 Registration Exercise.

If your child has obtained approval from CEU for your child's deferment but has not secured a school place, your child will need to participate in the P1 Registration Exercise the following year.
