Can I register my child in a subsequent P1 Registration Exercise if we did not complete the registration this year?

For Singapore Citizen (SC) children

All SCs born after 1 January 1996 and living in Singapore must attend a national primary school under the Compulsory Education Act. You must register your child in this year’s P1 registration if your child is age-eligible for this year’s P1 registration. Children born between 2 January 2019 and 1 January 2020 (both dates inclusive) are due for the 2025 P1 Registration for admission to Primary 1 in 2026.

You cannot register your child in a subsequent year’s P1 Registration Exercise if they are eligible to register for P1 this year, but did not complete the registration and did not get approval for deferment.

If your child does not have approval for deferment, and is not registered for a school by the end of the P1 Registration Exercise in late August, you can contact us to facilitate their admission to a school with available vacancies.

If you have valid reasons or if your child's birthday falls on 1 January 2020 and you want your child to enter primary school in 2027 instead, you can apply to defer or delay your child’s entry through our Compulsory Education Unit.

For Permanent Resident (PR) children

You must register your child in this year’s P1 registration if your child is age-eligible for this year’s P1 registration.

You cannot register your child in a subsequent year’s P1 Registration Exercise if they are eligible to register for P1 this year but did not complete the registration. You can contact us to facilitate their admission to a school with available vacancies.

If your child's birthday falls on 1 January 2020 and you want your child to enter primary school in 2027 instead, you can register your child in the 2026 P1 Registration Exercise.
