What if we are unable to get a place in the special education school near our home?
MOE is committed to ensuring there are places for children with moderate-to-severe special educational needs (SEN) in the special education (SPED) school system. We continuously monitor SPED school capacity and will introduce appropriate measures to ensure that there are sufficient school places in schools.
You are encouraged to broaden your options when considering a SPED school for your child. It would be advisable to enrol your child in a school that can serve their learning and developmental needs if the school is near to your place of residence and has places available.
You could also work with the SPED schools to look into providing appropriate school bus transport arrangement for your child. Should transport subsidy be necessary, students may tap on the means-tested Enabling Transport Subsidy, which provides up to 80% subsidy for school bus transportation fees. The quantum of subsidy will depend on your monthly transport charges, means test and mobility type. SPED schools also provide school-based financial assistance to support students who require further financial assistance with their school bus transportation cost.
