Transferring your child to another school is an important decision, as the change in environment can disrupt your child’s educational experience.

If your child is currently studying in a special education (SPED) school and you are seeking a transfer to another SPED or mainstream school, you must directly approach your child’s current SPED school for assistance. Your child’s SPED school is committed to help students pursue their educational goals and it is best placed to advise you on your child’s learning needs. The request for school transfer should be supported by your child’s current school and updated psychological report if applicable.

Please contact your child’s current SPED school for more information on how to request for a transfer. Your child’s school may then raise your application for the transfer to the Multi-Agency Advisory Panel for assessment and recommendation on your child’s placement. The Multi-Agency Advisory Panel comprises healthcare and education professionals from the government, social and healthcare sectors as well as SPED school personnel, who assist in identifying appropriate educational placement.

For all transfers, the sending and receiving mainstream or SPED schools will work together to implement transition support as needed. The focus is on ensuring that such a transfer is beneficial to the child educationally and that their learning needs can continue to be supported meaningfully in the new setting.
