The Merdeka Generation Package benefits were designed with the needs and circumstances of the Merdeka Generation in mind. Compared to Pioneers, the Merdeka Generation had better access to more educational opportunities and benefitted from more years of economic growth. With the introduction of MediSave in 1984, they would have had more years to accumulate their savings to pay for their healthcare bills through MediSave, as compared with the Pioneers.

On top of the Merdeka Generation MediSave top-ups, the Government also provides MediSave top-ups of up to $450 each year under the permanent GST Voucher scheme to Singapore citizens aged 65 years and above. This helps our seniors in managing healthcare costs, including paying for medical expenses or their health insurance premiums.

We monitor healthcare affordability on an ongoing basis, and will consider ways to help keep healthcare affordable for all Singapore citizens.
