What does academic learning in AES look like?

Updated by AES

At AES, we believe that education is not just about exams - it is about cultivating a joy of learning. Teachers are proficient in using technology to engage students in learning. For example, gamified lessons increase motivation while platforms such as Padlet enable collaborative learning. The Singapore Student Learning Space (SLS) and its Artificial Intelligence (AI) features are regularly used to enhance lessons and check for understanding. It also supports students’ self-directed learning.

We also create opportunities for students to learn in authentic settings beyond the classroom. Examples of how this is done in the different subjects include:

  • English & Literature: Students attend theatre plays such as Perfecting Pratas and The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, fostering a love and appreciation for the language through artistic expression.

  • Mother Tongue: Students participate in learning journeys and cultural workshops during the Annual Mother Tongue Fortnight to enhance students' understanding and appreciation of the different cultures and traditions. Students also attend the Theatre Exposure Programme to further instill the love and appreciation of the MT languages.

  • Science: All Secondary 1–3 students work on a Science Experiential Project every year. Using a design-inquiry approach, students apply scientific knowledge and skills to solve real-world problems.

  • Humanities: Secondary 1-2 students appreciate how Geography and History come alive through immersive learning experiences. They participate in field trips to the Dairy Farm Nature Park and the Former Ford Factory.

  • Mathematics: Secondary 1 students use Mathematical concepts such as angles, shapes, and area, as well as Physics concepts like drag and thrust, to design a kite that will stay up in the air for the longest duration.
