Can my child with special educational needs (SEN) be exempted from taking a Mother Tongue Language (MTL)?
Application for exemption from taking a Mother Tongue Language (MTL) can only be initiated after your child is enrolled in a mainstream school and has been given the opportunity and support to receive formal instruction in their MTL.
Applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and evaluated holistically to assess if exemption is in the best educational interest of your child. If your child is diagnosed with special educational needs, your child’s overall learning ability, school level, and the school’s assessment of their learning will be taken into account. The school will inform you of the application result.
