Can my child in special education school be exempted from taking a Mother Tongue Language?

Students in special education (SPED) schools are exempted from taking a Mother Tongue Language (MTL). This enables SPED schools to dedicate more curriculum time to supporting their learning and the development of adaptive lifeskills, such as daily living, social and communication skills. Nonetheless, SPED schools may (a) facilitate learning of MTL for students whom the schools assess to be able to take PSLE MTL, and/or (b) offer conversational MTL as enrichment programmes.
