You have up to 5 years (ten semesters) to complete a part-time diploma programme in the polytechnics. For post-diploma programmes, you will usually have up to twice the normal course duration (varies from programme to programme) to complete the programme.

For NUS's and NTU's part-time degree programmes, the maximum candidature period is 6 years.Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) undergraduates have up to 8 years to complete an undergraduate degree with honours.

The maximum period is meant to balance between providing adult learners with more time to complete their CET, and ensuring that the knowledge and skills acquired remain relevant to industry needs.
